Chart Analysis:

  1. Mahatma Gandhi

Agni can cook food or burn bodies. While Mahatma Gandhi practiced the softer aspect (non-violence) of the Misra Nakshatra Krittika, the sharper aspects of this Nakshatra lead to India burning

Background:

Gandhiji’s Jupiter is in the 1st Pada of Krittika which is ruled by the Sun and is influenced by Jupiter the Navamsa Pada Lord.  The 7th House indicates marriage, partnerships, break in travels, possessing clothes, partner’s purity, destruction of enemies, foreign or distant places, secret sex affairs, theft among others. Jupiter in Krittika is retrograde and is aspected by Mars (lord of 2 & 7) Mercury (lord of 9 and 12) and Venus (lord of the Lagna and the 8th house) all posited in the Lagna. Jupiter carries Krittika’s energies, via its 5/7/9 aspects to the 11th house (friends/regular income/gains), the 1st house of self and the 3rd house of courage, wandering, clean food, strength, great undertakings among others.

Interpretation:

The theme to ‘to cut’ or ‘to challenge’ run across the chart of Mahatma Gandhi and is especially strong in the houses influenced by the Jupiter bearing Krittika.

  • To cut: (a) Gandhiji’s relationship with his wife was, for all practical purposes, severed. He even forbade doctors from administering penicillin to his sick wife saying it was a foreign medicine. Kasturba Gandhi died due to lack of adequate treatment. (b) Gandhiji cut relationship with his son since he did not want his son to pursue his own path. His son Harilal wrote to Herman Kellenback – a close friend of Gandhiji – that his father had forgotten (cut) that he had a family. (c) Mahatma Gandhi cut the education of his children since he felt that education was detrimental to a pro-independence stance (d) Gandhiji was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize in 1937, 38, 39, 1947 and 1948 but did not make the cut as the Noble Committee felt that he was not a real politician, a proponent of international law, not a humanitarian relief worker or an organizer of a peace Congress! (e) Gandhiji cut the British Empire into India and Pakistan
  • Misra Nakshatra:  Krittika is a Misra nakshatra – sharp + soft. Gandhiji used soft tools like ahimsa, non-violence etc. with the effectiveness of sharp weapon.
  • Leadership in Mesha: Mahatma Gandhi’s Krittika was in Mesha and his leadership qualities are globally recognized
  • Combative nature:  Gandhiji was combative in non-violent ways. Non-violence was his weapon of combat
  • Dahana Shakti (burn to purify):  Mahatma Gandhi’s experiments with celibacy are well known – which were to burn away his desires and purify himself (be a celibate)
  • Abortion:  Abortion/abandonment or issues with children is a theme with Krittika. Gandhiji wanted all his 4 sons to follow his spartan life which was not accepted by his sons. His eldest son, Harilal, was disowned by Gandhiji. Harilal died a few years after Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji also disowned his younger son for loaning money to Harilal. Gandhiji did not have a normal relationship with his children.
  • More aligned to mothers:  Gandhiji was deeply influenced by his mother Putlibai, an extremely pious lady, who “would not think of taking her meals without her daily prayers”. She would take the hardest vows and keep them without flinching. To keep two or three consecutive fasts was very easy for her.

  1. Kathrine Hepburn

Natives born under Krittika are influenced by the story of Kartikeya born to kill Tarakasura. His vehicle was the peacock. As result, these natives have the ability to control the spread of poison

Background:

In this chart, the Sun is in Krittika -1 ruled by Mars/Sun/Jupiter and the Moon is in Krittika-3 ruled by Venus/Sun/Saturn.  The Sun is in 7th house of marriage, partnerships, break in travels, possessing clothes, partner’s purity, destruction of enemies, foreign or distant places, secret sex affairs, theft among others. The Moon is in the 8th house of longevity, happiness, defeat, worries arising from brother, misery disturbance of mental peace etc.

Interpretation:

  • Krit/Cut/Challenge:  The theme of cut/challenge runs thru the life of Katherine Hepburn. (a) Katherine Hepburn separated from her husband – Krittika in the 7th H. She married in 1928 and separated in 1934. She never married again. (b)  She cut (aborted) her contract with a studio, which offered her B grade roles after a series of flops, by paying them a severance fees to resurrect her career. This is akin to the 6 foetuses of Kartikeya which resurrected themselves in Sara Vana.
  • Can control poison:   After a series of failed films, Kathrine Hepburn was labelled ‘box office poison’.  She could however, control this poison by buying herself out of the contract with the Studio and later by acquiring rights for a film which she  used to re-launch herself.
  • Gifts in fine-art in the Taurus side of Krittika:  Other than being a successful actor for 50 years, Kathrine Hepburn was a passionate painter.
  • Precise and detail oriented:  Krittika natives are detail oriented and precise. Katherine Hepburn is described thus: “With a genuine passion for the industry she committed heavily to each role and insisted on learning any necessary skills and performing stunts herself. She was known to learn not only her own lines but also those of her co-stars.
  • Surrogacy/Foster Parenting:  Krittika natives have issues with children/surrogacy and foster parenting. Kathrine Hepburn also had issues related to children. She decided not to have or even adopt children as they came in the way of her career. She however, did do some substitute-mothering, however, of her younger siblings, Bob and Dick and Marion and Peggy, and was always loyal to, and protective of, them throughout the years. In later years, her home was filled always with siblings, nieces and nephews.
