Hasta Nakshatra

Chart Analysis:

  1. Mahatma Gandhi:

Hasta is represented by the Golden Rays of dawn and the Potter’s Wheel of the passage of time. Gandhiji used this Ingersoll Turnip pocket watch which had a golden glow on the face (not gold but turmeric like). Gandhiji was known to be the most punctual man in India often apologising even if he were a few minutes late.

As he made his way to the prayer meeting, supported by Manu and Abha, whom he called his “walking-sticks”, he complained: “I am late by ten minutes. I hate being late. I like to be at the prayer punctually at the stroke of five.” They were probably his last words, not ‘Hey Raam’, as is the popular myth.

Background:

Charles F. Andrews in his book, Mahatma Gandhi: His Life and Ideas: “It has been easy to outline the main programme of Mahatma Gandhi by holding up my hand with five fingers. Removal of untouchability, removing influence of drugs and alcohol, equality between men and women, Hindu Muslim Unity and Home spinning in villages – the uniting factor which binds these five factors is Ahimsa or non-violence (Vishnu)

Interpretation:

  • Corvus the Crow (ingenuity): Mahatma Gandhi used his ingenuity to approach complex problems with simple solutions (The Cow in Our Economy – Akhil Bharat Seva Sangh Prakshan). “We shall endeavour to improve the breed of cattle and will also be able to produce pure milk, ghee, etc. This is not merely a religious issue. It is an issue on which hinges the economic progress of India. Economists have furnished irrefutable figures to prove that the quality of cattle in India is so poor that the income from their milk is much less than the cost of their maintenance. We can turn our gaushalas into centres for the study of economics and for the solution of this big problem.”
  •  Crows hold the power to foresee the future: No wonder, man has emerged as a violent species. Mahatma Gandhi foresaw this situation and one of his major intentions while he wrote ‘Hind Swaraj’ was to teach the Indians that ‘modern western civilization’ with the above said consequences posed a greater threat to them and to humanity than did colonialism. He said that “I would ask you to read Hind Swaraj with my eyes and see therein the chapter on how to make India non-violent.
  • Ignored warnings (by the Raven of the Crow):  Gandhiji opposed Partition till the end. In the 1937 legislative elections, the Congress won a majority in Uttar Pradesh. Muhammad Ali Jinnah asked Jawaharlal Nehru for a coalition with the Muslim League, but the latter refused despite Gandhi’s advice to build bridges with the Muslim League. However, Nehru was eager to get independence as soon as possible. Such a political stance coupled with British imperial manoeuvres made the Partition inevitable.
  • Scavenging (crows are scavengers):  Mahatma Gandhi called for the end of manual scavenging more than 100 years ago, and yet caste-dictated, government-funded manual handling and transport of human excreta persists. They are treated by both society and government as social outcasts (like the Crow) fit only for this degrading and dangerous work. With the Sun in Hasta, he wanted government intervention to end scavenging
  •  Malevolence, Malicious, Fiendishness, Repulsiveness and Lying are associated with the Crow/Raven:  In the book, “Mahatma Gandhi and His Myths by Mark Shepard the author says, “ Gandhi’s most bitter critics have called him a charlatan, a deceiving malicious fraud

  • Spinning of the Potter’s Wheel:  “My exercise of choice is spinning at SoulCycle” (SoulCycle is a New York City-based fitness company with studios in nine U.S. states. Founded in 2006, it offers indoor cycling (also known as “spinning”) workout classes to sculpt the body.)

  1. Paul McCartney:

With his Lagna is Hasta, Paul McCartney could play 40 musical instruments which included bass guitar, acoustic and electric guitars, piano and keyboards, drums and many other musical instruments

Background:

The theme of Mantras: Paul McCartney, the former member of the Beatles reflected on his first experience with Transcendental Meditation over 40 years ago, when he was taught personally by Maharishi. Paul recalled: “It was great. We [the four Beatles] all went into a room one by one, while Maharishi was there.” Paul said Maharishi then gave him his personal mantra, to facilitate the meditation process. “It’s yours, you don’t need to verbalize it; you want to keep it inside,” Maharishi told Paul.

Interpretation:

  •  Crows hold the power to see the future:  Paul McCartney has revealed that he had the premonition of The Beatles’ huge success before the band ever got together. In an interview with The Big Issue the superstar exclusively revealed that he had dreamed of digging up gold coins in his garden. In a world exclusive, McCartney told the magazine: “Life gives you minor premonitions. You don’t think of them as premonitions until the dream comes true and you think, ‘hey, I wonder if that was a sign?’ I had a dream about digging in the garden with my hands. I’d dreamt that before but I’d never found anything other than an old tin can.

“But in this dream, I found a gold coin. I kept digging and I found another. And another.” When he told Lennon next morning, John replied: “That’s funny, I had the same dream.” McCartney added: “So both of us had this dream of finding treasure. And I suppose you could say it came true.”

  •  Ignored warnings (theme of Corvus): Paul McCartney ignored the warnings given to him not to carry Pot into Japan. The drug was discovered in his baggage and he had to spend 10 days in near solitary confinement and was potentially liable to spend seven year in jail spending time in rock-breaking labour which he was spared due to his status. He was deported from Japan in 10 days of his arrest.
  • Unkind/Destructiveness/Malevolence are themes of Corvus:  Now The National Enquirer reports that a Beatles biographer has hours of audiotape from Paul McCartney’s stepmother and stepsister in which they claim that he was cruel to his ailing father and has always treated them with contempt. If you read what they’re saying, it sounds like they didn’t get along with him and are bitter and pissed off that he didn’t support them
  • Painting skill: Paul McCartney could drum up a painting! Originally, Paul’s paintings were inspired by empty spaces he wanted to fill in his homes. From there Paul really took to it producing numerous abstract works like “Big Mountain Face and “Egypt Station.” Painting appealed to McCartney because there were no rules like in music and he could express himself in any way he saw fit.
